No Guts No Glory explores the world of banger racing as a living culture where destruction and devotion are inseparable. Often dismissed as chaotic or crude, this unofficial heritage sport reveals, on closer inspection, a community bound by labour, humour, and loyalty. The project turns away from the spectacle of collision to focus instead on the slower, human moments that surround it; the preparation, repair, pride, and persistence that shape the sport’s everyday rituals. In a time when many of its arenas are disappearing and working-class spaces face erasure, banger racing endures as an act of resistance, its battered cars acting as material metaphors of resilience. This work seeks to honour that dignity, portraying a culture sustained not by recognition but by its own creativity, camaraderie, and defiant spirit.
